Ballot called in Liverpool

Residential care workers in Liverpool are to be balloted this
week on strike action. Workers have been on an overtime ban since
April, but complaints about the authority flooding the service with
agency staff have led to a call for all-out strike.

Meanwhile, two social services shop stewards facing disciplinary
action by public service union Unison have been elected branch
chairman and editor of the branch magazine in the first elections
to be held for two years.

Aidan Pollitt and Tony Nolan have both been under investigation
by the national union for more than two years following unofficial
strike action.

Pollitt shares the chair manship with Raphael Park inson, while
Nolan is editor of Unison Herald, the branch magazine.
