Rights letter withdrawn following clash

Devon Unison has been forced to withdraw a letter advising
clients of their rights after it clashed with social services
management.

The letter aimed to deflect client’s anger from staff to
management by setting out people’s rights under community care
legislation, advising them to write to the Ombudsman or an MP.

According to Andrew Williamson, Devon social services director,
the letter disclosed confidential information about clients and was
a breach of contract.
