Social care charities have been assured that they will not lose
state grants if they receive National Lottery funding.Confusion
arose over new guidance limiting state aid for agencies receiving
matching funding under the Environmental Action Fund, which does
not apply to social care charities. More than 11,000 agencies have
applied to the National Lottery Charities Board. About 6,000 have
been analysed, but assessments have not yet been carried
out.Meanwhile the board has denied that its chairperson, David
Sieff, made derogatory comments about deaf people in a newspaper
interview. Sieff claimed he was misquoted, and only intended to
convey a fear that agencies for deaf people may gain less sympathy
from the public than others.
