Rise in number of patients waiting for treatment

The total number of patients waiting for treatment in NHS
hospitals rose by 0.4 per cent between the end of December and the
end of January, the latest statistics have revealed.

However, the figures show that the number of people waiting to
be admitted to hospitals between January 2000 and January 2001,
fell by 7.1 per cent. The number of English residents waiting over
a year at the end of January also fell by 2.7 per cent.
