Care homes urged to pressure candidates

People in the care homes sector are being asked to put pressure
on parliamentary candidates in the General Election.

The Coalition for Quality in Care, an alliance of more than 50
older people’s charities and care homes, has drafted a list of five
questions that it wants care home staff, residents and their
friends and families to put to candidates in their
constituencies.

The questions cover the fairness of means-testing for personal
care, residents’ rights to spacious and comfortable rooms, whether
local authorities should pay higher fees to homes that provide a
wide range of stimulating activities for their residents, staff
training, and safeguards against ill-treatment and abuse.
