Asylum vouchers review stalls

Home Office minister Lord Rooker has admitted that consultation
on the voucher scheme for asylum seekers was completed months ago
and delays in publishing its outcomes were due to a change of
ministerial team.

Answering questions in the House of Lords earlier this month,
Lord Rooker confirmed that the review would not be published before
the summer recess despite there being no “outstanding
inquiries”.

He said:”As a new ministerial team, it will take a while for us
to come to our conclusions.”

He denied allegations that the policy on vouchers was “cruel”,
but acknowledged that many people were concerned about the
operation of the scheme.
