Refugees invite Blair to troubled Glasgow estate

Asylum seekers in Glasgow have written to prime minister Tony
Blair inviting him to meet them and local residents in the
Sighthill area of Glasgow.

Blair is due to make a formal visit to Glasgow on Saturday
(September 1). Asif Naveen, spokesperson for the Glasgow Refugee
Group which represents asylum seekers from 30 different
nationalities, wrote: “I believe the visit would be beneficial to
the communities in Sighthill. It would also give you firsthand
insight into the desperate need for resources, and the issues of
integrating refugees into local communities.”

No formal response was available from the prime minister’s
office at the time of going to press.
