Migration abuse revealed

Some British children who migrated to
Australia under approved schemes experienced “emotional deprivation
and abuse”, according to a new report by the Australian
government.

The report admits that some children sent to
the country after World War Two did not receive high quality care
from the agencies and state governments charged with looking after
them.

The report says: “State governments were
unable or unwilling to ensure the protection of the children and
the committee received evidence of shocking physical and sexual
abuse and assault perpetrated by those charged with their
day-to-day care.”

It concludes: “This report recognises that
while some child migrants have prospered in this country, many
others are not in this position.”
