Helping with US recovery

Social workers will play a key role in the
recovery process following the terrorist attacks in the US and are
on standby to help around the world.

The International Federation of Social Workers
said its members were ready to work with colleagues to seek a
“reasoned and peaceful solution” to the international conflict
which leads to such atrocities.

“Our colleagues in the US in particular will,
along with other professionals, play a vital role in the recovery
process,” said an IFSW statement.

“The international community of social workers
stands ready to assist in whatever way it can.”

Meanwhile, the Local Government Association
urged councils to issue joint statements with community leaders
expressing the horror felt at the attacks, while working to help
defuse any local tensions exacerbated by the incident.
