Organisations want more new houses

Three national housing organisations are
calling for an extra £1.5bn annually from 2003-4 onwards, most
of which should be spent on increasing the supply of new
housing.

The Chartered Institute of Housing, the Local
Government Association and the National Housing Federation have
made a joint submission to the Department for Transport, Local
Government and the Regions and the Treasury outlining their
priorities for the next spending review.

Extra money would be used to resource a new
Housing Market Renewal Fund to increase the housing element of new
regeneration projects and to simplify the housing benefit
scheme.
