Home helps in Glasgow to vote on strike action

Home helps in Glasgow are to be balloted on industrial action
after negotiations broke down between Glasgow council and the
workers’ main trade union, the GMB.

The GMB claims that the council has unilaterally imposed a cut
in overtime payments, in breach of its own rules. The result of the
ballot of the 2,500 workers will be known early next month, and the
GMB warns of a potential crisis over Christmas.

A spokesperson for Glasgow council said: “Steps have been taken
to put in place whatever is necessary to maintain the service.”
