Integration panel head appointed

Former Nottingham Council chief executive Ted
Cantle has been appointed as chairperson of the Community Cohesion
Panel which will provide guidance and support to local councils,
voluntary organisations and statutory agencies in developing
appropriate strategies for improving integration between
communities.

The panel will also advise the government’s
ministerial group on community cohesion, and has arisen from the
recommendations of Cantle’s independent review into last summer’s
disturbances in Bradford, Burnley and Oldham, published in
December.

Although the panel will inform government
policy, its main focus will be on working with local areas and
could include “action teams” to advise councils.
