Council investigates worker’s absence

A Liverpool social worker, who sits as
chairperson of Merseyside Police Authority, is under investigation
by the council after it was alleged she attended police authority
meetings while on extended sick leave from her job.

The inquiry centres on Carol Gustafson, a
youth worker with Liverpool social services and a councillor at
Sefton Borough Council.

Liverpool Council refused to comment on the
inquiry, but the police authority confirmed an investigation was
taking place.

Gustafson, who is understood to have had
open-heart surgery in September of last year, was unavailable for
comment.
