Care homes closure decision delayed

Failure by Plymouth Council to find suitable
people to serve on a review panel has delayed decisions about the
fate of two residential homes by a further five months.

The council agreed to set up a special panel
to allow residents of Granby Way and Tory Brook homes to register
their views prior to a final decision being taken as part of an out
of court agreement after residents took them to the appeal court in
November to argue against the proposed closures (News, page 7, 22
November).

Although a chairperson has now been appointed,
social services portfolio holder Grant Monahan said the council had
had no success in finding the other two panel members.
