New online initiative for children in care

Funding of £1 million has been dedicated to develop an
‘online community’ for children in care, health minister Jacqui
Smith and schools minister Catherine Ashton have announced.

‘CareZone’ is being developed by The Who Cares? Trust, and aims
to feature child friendly technology developed with input from
children, build relationships with children in care over time,
provide services to reduce the sense of isolation and create a
community of care for children, their carers and other
professionals.

“The government is pleased to support this initiative. It
empowers children, providing a wealth of information of all aspects
of care, health and education,” Smith said. “It also provides them
with a secure on-line world, helping to unlock their potential and
tackle the sense of isolation that many children in care feel.”
