Opinion divided on value of star ratings

Opinions were evenly divided among visitors to
Community Care‘s website about whether the new star
ratings system for local authorities will lead to improved
services.

Forty
nine per cent of poll respondents said star ratings to be
introduced next month will improve services, with 51 per cent
disagreeing.

This
week’s question asks: Will fines for local authorities
reduce “bed blocking”?

Health
secretary Alan Milburn announced that councils will be charged for
the costs incurred by hospitals when older people occupy beds
beyond the time when they are ready to be discharged.
