Women with learning difficulties do not understand menopause

Women with learning difficulties have little or no understanding
of the menopause or osteoporosis, according to a new report by the
Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities.

‘The menopause and women with learning disabilities’ found that
while most pre-menopausal women were unaware that their periods
would eventually end, those that did know had no understanding
why.

The report recommends that doctors make their services more
responsive to the needs of women with learning difficulties, and
the women should be informed about the menopause in a proactive and
accessible way.
