Unison votes against nursing care divide

Unison members voted unanimously for a motion
opposing the “artificial distinction” between nursing and personal
care at the public service union’s annual health conference in
Brighton this week.

The motion expressed concern over the
government’s refusal to implement the recommendations of the Royal
Commission on Long Term Care for the Elderly for personal care to
be free. It described charging elderly and disabled people for
personal care as unacceptable and demanded an end to means
testing.
