Survey points to fear of sheltered homes

A survey has found that 70 per cent of people
know what sheltered housing is but only 42 per cent know it is a
housing choice for older people.

Most of the 300 people surveyed by the
Emerging Role of Social Housing Project, an umbrella body for
sheltered housing organisations, said that they thought sheltered
housing was depressing.

Around half said they would consider moving
into it but only if “absolutely necessary”.

The findings of the survey coincide with
around 2,000 events being held this week to raise awareness of
sheltered housing.
