One in three MPs protests about way free nursing care implemented

More than 200 MPs have written to ministers at the department of
health expressing concern over the way free nursing care has been
implemented.

In response to a question from Liberal Democrat spokesperson for
older people Paul Burstow, health minister Jacqui Smith said she
had received over 200 letters from MPs and 150 letters from the
public about NHS funded nursing care.

She added that “a large proportion”, but not all, were about the
increases in care home fees following the introduction of free
nursing care.

Burstow said that the implementation of free nursing care has
been “badly botched”. “When more than one in three of all MPs write
to a minister on a specific issue then there is something seriously
wrong with the policy,” he said.
