Training fund heavily over subscribed

Many of the bids to secure government funding for social care
training projects are likely to fail because the training fund is
nearly three times over-subscribed.

The 55 applications received by Topss England for the £3
million set aside for national projects total £8.2
million.

The remaining £12 million of the total £15 million
fund for 2002/03 has been divided between TOPSS England’s
nine regional training forums. None of the regions have finalised
figures, but they are also expected to be massively
over-subscribed.

TOPSS England is selecting applications most likely to achieve
department of health targets on new staff inductions, registered
manager NVQs, and assessors, verifiers and mentors for care sector
NVQs. Induction training is expected to be particularly
over-subscribed.
