Code set to protect Welsh charity work

The National Assembly for Wales and the
voluntary sector are expected to launch a new code aimed at
safeguarding the work of charities in Wales following the departure
of the Children’s Society from the country last autumn.

The
Children’s Society’s decision to axe all of its services in Wales
provoked widespread criticism particularly because of the lack of
consultation with the assembly and other interested groups in Wales
(News, page 11, 18 July).

“The
formulation of a new protocol between the voluntary sector and the
assembly will mean that in future there will be much more
consultation and I very much welcome that,” said Ann Jones,
assembly member for the Vale of Clwyd.
