Liverpool to launch ‘action team’ firm

A company to be set up by Liverpool Council could rival the
private sector performance action teams being used to turn around
social services departments.

The company, NewCo, will help run services for other councils.
These will range from managing call centres and consultancy work,
to going into failing departments.

The council believes that the new company will create jobs and
generate millions of pounds, which will be invested in improving
services. Staff will be seconded to the new company but continue to
be employed by Liverpool Council. The council will have a 51 per
cent stake in the firm.

Chief executive of Liverpool Council David Henshaw said: “The
creation of NewCo will mean we are able to offer our expertise to
both the public and private sector and raise valuable income for
the city.”
