Ex-care home boss accused of stealing

The former manager of a care home for people with learning
difficulties appeared in court last week accused of stealing
£118,000 from Hampshire social services.

James Swaby, who was the unit manager of Upton Grey Close,
Winchester, allegedly stole the money between August 1995 and
February this year.

His wife, Kim, who was a part-time night care assistant, is
alleged to have stolen about £17,000.

Both are also accused of deception by illegally altering the
number of hours that Kim Swaby worked.

The couple, who have since resigned, denied all the charges at
Winchester Crown Court.

They were remanded on bail to appear at court next month.
