Denham moves on strategy

Local preventive plans are expected to be in place from next
year as part of the government’s policy to end social
exclusion.

Announcing the next steps in establishing local strategies to
support children and families, minister for young people John
Denham said: “Too many children… face involvement in crime,
poor health, early unwanted pregnancies, substance misuse or
under-achievement in education because we fail to intervene early
enough.”

Preventive strategies will have to be agreed by councils, the
health service, the police and key justice agencies.
