Adopters shunning one in four children

A survey by Baaf Adoption and Fostering has found that more than
one in four children awaiting adoption receives no enquiries about
them from prospective adopters.

Of the 430 children featured in Baaf’s Be My Parent, 129
received no enquiries. The other children featured received 1,255
calls. The 129 were more likely to be older boys from ethnic
minorities or with learning difficulties.

The findings came as Baaf appealed to MPs and peers to back
amendments to the Children and Adoption Bill that would allow
unmarried couples, including gay men and lesbians, to jointly
adopt.
