Haringey sacks two Climbie workers

Two Haringey social workers involved in the case of Victoria
Climbie have been sacked for gross misconduct after disciplinary
hearings held in September reported this week.

Lisa Arthurworrey, Victoria’s allocated worker, and her manager,
Angella Mairs, were suspended on full pay in October 2000 and March
2001 respectively after the eight-year-old died in February
2000.

Arthurworrey told the Laming inquiry into Victoria’s death that
Mairs had destroyed case file notes, a claim she denied.

Arthurworrey was herself criticised for failing to carry out home
visits with a police officer because she feared catching
scabies.

Neither attended the hearings.

A council spokesperson confirmed that Mairs did not intend to
appeal against the decision, but that Arthurworrey would.
