Care homes fail to offer single rooms

A new survey has revealed the lack of provision in care homes
for older people.

The study carried out by ‘Which?’ magazine, which is published
by the Consumers’ Association, found a shortage of rooms for single
older people who do not want to share a room.

Out of 70 care homes across Britain questioned in the survey,
only 15 were able to offer a single room. In two cases a shared
room was all that was available and one home had a waiting list of
two to three years.

More than 40 of the homes quoted prices higher than local
authorities are prepared to pay for older people placed there.
