Older people need tailored service

Older homeless people should have a specific resettlement service
that provides them with support, a report by the Salvation Army has
urged.

Old Before Our Time is based on the resettlement work of
older homeless people by the Salvation Army’s homeless centre in
Bristol.

The report recommends that separate hostels for the older homeless
population are needed because their needs are different from those
of younger homeless people. It also says information about
different older people’s services should be available through
housing advice agencies and day centres.

The research was funded by the Salvation Army, Help the Aged and
the Housing Associations’ Charitable Trust.
