Key ministers in care sector resign

As Community Care went to press, the turmoil within the
government over its policy on Iraq had already claimed two
high-profile resignations from politicians working in the social
care sector.

Home office minister John Denham resigned from his position this
week saying he could not support the government over the issue of a
possible war with Iraq. One of Denham’s last acts as minister was
to speak to Community Care about the antisocial behaviour white
paper.

Lord Hunt has resigned from his role as lead minister for quality
and performance in the NHS, which included acting for the
government in the House of Lords debates on the Community Care
(Delayed Discharge) Bill.
