Just a council cock-up, on the surface

A man who waited 12 months to have a disabled parking bay outside
his home watched in horror last week as the road was resurfaced the
day after it had been painted.

Ken Stevenson, 78, from Portland, Dorset, who suffers from
arthritis in his knees, was delighted when the yellow bay was
painted. But, while the work was being done, he received a letter
informing him his road was to be resurfaced the next day.

Having received the letter on April Fools Day, Stevenson assumed it
was a joke until workers appeared the next day to start
resurfacing.

Weymouth and Portland Council said it was resurfacing a road nearby
but “due to a discrepancy between street naming and numbering” the
work incorrectly extended into Stevenson’s road, covering the bay.
