Behan is chief inspector for new commission

David Behan has been appointed as the chief inspector for the
Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Behan, who is the current president of the Association of
Directors of Social Services, will take up the post in a shadow
form in November before the commission officially begins work in
April next year. He will leave his job as social services director
for Greenwich Council.

He will report to Denise Platt who is the shadow chairperson of
the commission. The role is equivalent to chief executive.

Four commissioners have also been appointed to the commission to
start on 26 August:

Peter Westland is retired after a career which included director
of social services posts with Hammersmith and Fulham Council and
the Association of Metropolitan Authorities. He is currently
chairperson of Action on Elder Abuse.

Jim Mansell is professor of applied psychology at Kent
University. He is currently a member of the National Care Standards
Commission.

Olu Olasode is a public service productivity and finance
consultant. He has worked for the Audit Commission and the Housing
Inspectorate.

John Knight is head of external policy at the Leonard Cheshire
Foundation.
