Care trust takes on new role for children services

A care trust in Essex is the first in the country to be chosen
to establish a pathfinder children’s trust.

Witham, Braintree and Halstead Care Trust and Essex Council will
set-up the trust bringing together social care, education and
health services for children.

The care trust, which was only set-up in October last year, is
responsible for the local health services for everyone living in
the district.

A total of 35 pathfinder children’s trusts were announced
in July.

Dr Paul Zollinger-Read, care trust chief executive, said:
“Children’s services are so utterly fragmented with
health, education and social services. This is a real opportunity
to develop children’s services around children, and not as we
have historically done around organisations.”
