Education director to head social work in Edinburgh

The director of education for Edinburgh Council has been given
interim responsibility for the social work department after the
resignation of former director Les McEwan, writes
Maggie Wood.

Roy Jobson, who has no social work experience, is currently
chairperson of the multi-agency children’s services strategy
group for the council.

McEwan resigned after an inquiry into the death of
11-week-old Caleb Ness who was shaken to death by his father, was
criticial of the social work department. Council chiefs said it
will take six months to find a replacement for McEwan.

Jobson said: “In my existing role as director of education
I have been heavily involved in children’s services. Given
the legal and statutory responsibilities of the department, I will
be heavily supported by senior colleagues in social
work.”
