Where Connexions could do better

The Connexions service is failing some disabled young people, a
disabled children’s campaigner warned last week.

Helen Wheatley, development officer at the Council for Disabled
Children, said during a discussion on children at 10 Downing Street
held as part of Labour’s “Big Conversation” (see picture below)
that, while Connexions was a “very welcome initiative”, it was not
serving disabled young people as well as it could.

“It is a universal service and we would like to see that
universality extended to be more inclusive of disabled children,”
she said, adding that Connexions personal advisers needed to be
clearer about their role.
