her resignation speech

Immigration minister Beverley Hughes has resigned after facing
criticism over the government’s policies on immigration.

She faced intense pressure recently over an alleged policy of
allowing immigrant workers from eastern Europe countries, which are
due to join the European Union, to enter the UK without visa
checks.

The criticism grew more intense after it was claimed she misled
the House of Commons when she denied knowledge of the relaxation of
restrictions in the Sheffield immigration office.
