Equality Policy

Sandwell Council is committed to a policy of ensuring equality
of opportunity in employment for all, and to taking action to avoid
discrimination. Job Applicants are considered only on their ability
to do the job for which they are applying.

The Council’s Equality Policy states:

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough
Council is committed to achieving the highest standards of
employment practice. Equality of opportunity for all of the
workforce is an integral part of this commitment. The Council will
not tolerate less favourable treatment on the grounds of sex,
gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national
origins, disability, marital status, sexual orientation,
responsibility for dependents, age, trade union or political
activities, religious beliefs, spent offences or any other reason
which cannot be shown to be justified.

The Council seeks to provide a positive role model for other
organisations in the country

To achieve these aims the Council will continue to:

  • Ensure that its employment practices provide equality of
opportunity for both current and prospective employees and promote
a work culture that values diversity
  • Use the Race Relations Act, 1976, the Sex Discrimination Act
1975, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and any other
appropriate legislation as a framework for action to support
    initiatives.
  • Will work in partnership with community groups and other
agencies to remove any barriers to fair and equal treatment
