Four social services authorities expected to be capped

The government is expected to announce this week that it is to
cap the spending of four councils with social services
responsibilities, raising fears of cuts in care services.

Herefordshire, Nottingham, Torbay and Telford and Wrekin
Councils look set to be told they will not be allowed to raise
council tax as much as they planned in order to meet the expected
cost of services.

Services for people with learning difficulties, special
educational needs and day care for older people are most likely to
be affected. Also, child protection services could be at risk as
three police authorities are also expected to be capped.
