Tories would scrap Best Value regime

Comprehensive performance assessment and Best Value would be
scrapped if the Conservatives came to power, Michael Howard said
last week.

The party’s leader told the conference that he would “immediately
abolish” both regimes as they took up “so much valuable staff time,
cost so much and interfered so greatly in the day-to-day work of
local councils”.

Commenting on the Commission for Social Care Inspection,
Conservative councillor Nick Skellett added: “I do not believe a
single inspectorate is sufficient but greater co-ordination is an
excellent idea.”
