Climbie doctors face investigation

The General Medical Council is investigating two of the doctors who
examined Victoria Climbie in the months leading up to her death.

A spokesperson from the GMC said that allegations against Dr Mary
Schwartz, a consultant paediatrician at Central Middlesex hospital,
and Dr Mary Rossiter, a consultant at North Middlesex hospital,
warranted further investigation which could lead to a full public
hearing.

At this stage the GMC could not release details of the allegations
or confirm whether they were connected with Victoria, who died in
February 2000 aged eight after months of torture by her great-aunt
and her great-aunt’s boyfriend.

No date has been set for the GMC hearing.
