Needs assessment training for GPs

Changes in the training of GPs to help them assess the needs of
people with neurological disease and brain or spinal injuries are
likely to be brought in next year, delegates were told.

Julie Charles, chief executive of the charity Equalities and a
member of the external reference group for the forthcoming national
service framework on long-term conditions, told the conference she
understood that there were going to be “a lot of changes to GP
training”.

Her comments followed concerns from delegates about many GPs being
inadequately trained to deal with their conditions.

The framework is due to be published this year.
