Organisations must tackle stress

Organisations have been given new guidance for dealing with
stress in the workplace by the Health and Safety Executive this
week, writes Maria Ahmed.

The HSE has set out six management standards to ease pressure
for workers in the public and private sectors.

Employers should ensure staff can cope with the demands of the
job and have adequate control over how they work. Support should be
on offer from colleagues, and staff should not be subjected to
unacceptable behaviour such as bullying.

A recent study found front-line social workers topped the table
of the most stressed professionals in the UK.
