Charities must train staff, says report

Voluntary organisations must budget for the cost of training and
development when they employ staff, according to a report published
last week.

Research by umbrella groups, including the National Association of
Councils for Voluntary Service and the National Council for
Voluntary Organisations, found that small organisations rely on
them for help with training.

But the report says umbrella groups are wary about advertising
their help because they will be inundated with requests.

Key findings in the report are that umbrella bodies need to become
“problem preventers”.
