Funds needed for children strategy

Northern Ireland’s 10-year strategy for children and young
people is a missed opportunity because ministers have failed to
provide funding to implement it, campaigners have warned.

Northern Ireland anti-poverty network campaigner Goretti Horgan
said: “Children in Northern Ireland are being left to rot.”

A spokesperson for the Office of the First Minister and Deputy
First Minister insisted that “very significant resources” were
already spent each year on the delivery of services to children and
young people and their families.

But “significant additional resources” would be required to deliver
many of the actions set out in document, the spokesperson said.
