Coalition bids for say on green paper

Social care leaders from the public and voluntary sectors have
joined together to lobby the government on their vision for adult
social care.

The group is due to hold its first meeting this month. It is led
by the Association of Directors of Social Services, the Local
Government Association and the NHS Confederation, and will include
several charities.

It will lobby the government on the adult green paper, due for
publication next month, and put forward its own proposals for the
future of adults’ services.

A similar coalition set up to lobby ministers on children’s
services ahead of the publication of the green paper Every Child
Matters in September 2003 successfully persuaded the government to
increase the level of local flexibility in the reforms embodied in
the Children Act 2004.
