Training Material: Count Me In!

COUNT ME IN!

A RESOURCE PACK ON DISABILITY ISSUES

British Red Cross and the National Youth
Agency

ISBN 0861553160, £9.50

Star Rating: 4/5

If you lack confidence in disability issues, then you must
invest in this resource, writes Nicky Judd.
Like a basic cook book, it clearly presents the risk level and
materials required, as well as a simple explanation for each
activity.

Many of these issues will be familiar to youth workers, but
discussion points are given to draw out specific learning around
disability.

One of the activities in the resource explores society’s
disabling of people with impairments, while others cover subjects
such as experiencing limitations, feeling excluded and recognising
everyone’s gifts.
If you have ever bought an overpriced games compendium to find only
a few games are workable, this is a refreshing resource.

It would be a shame if it were only used by those working
specifically on disability issues. Better say: “Count me in!”

Nicky Judd is a youth worker for Hampshire County Youth
Service.
