Football to help children kick bad health habits

Football clubs should play a role in encouraging children get
fit and lead healthier lifestyles, says the government.

Health secretary John Reid was visiting Charlton Athletic
football club to launch a new scheme to encourage children to
exercise.

It coincided with the publication of a Department of Health
plan of action on delivering the measures set out in last
year’s White Paper on public health. It includes detailed
plans for increasing children’s physical activity, and
reducing childhood obesity.
