Half of schools to be revamped to become a hub of family services

Chancellor Gordon Brown has pledged to rebuild or refurbish at
least half of Britain’s primary schools so they can become a
hub of family services, writes Craig Kenny in
London
.

Children’s minister Margaret Hodge told a conference today
that several billion pounds would be invested over the next 15
years.

Renewed schools would be able to provide services to support
parents, adult education, ICT (information and communications
technology), healthcare and childcare from 8am to 6pm and in school
holidays, she said.
