Councils acclaimed for excellent work

Forty-eight councils were recognised this week for their excellent
services under 10 themes in the sixth annual beacon councils
awards.

There was recognition for Cannock Chase, Gateshead, Manchester and
Stockton-on-Tees Councils in the healthy communities category; and
Essex, Knowsley, Telford and Wrekin, and West Sussex were
successful in the integrated children’s services category.

Blyth Valley, Haringey, South Somerset, Tameside, Tower Hamlets,
Wiltshire and Croydon councils were acclaimed for “getting closer
to their communities”.

Bristol, Gravesham and Tower Hamlets were recognised for their work
in promoting racial equality, and Hertfordshire, Rochdale, Sefton
and Sunderland for supporting carers.

Basingstoke and Deane, East Hampshire, South Hams and Greenwich
were successful in the affordable housing category.
