Debate on advocacy

We asked:- In five years’ time will there be far more
advocates available for people with learning difficulties.

Here are the comments we received.

“About time too!”

Fiona Simmons

“I have been working for a client advocacy agency since
August of last year.

After 28 years of working for social work agencies both in the
local authority and voluntary sector, I am finding client advocacy
as the article implies a type of new territory still being
developed in advocating for learning disabled adults.

With the support and encouragement of the management I have
enabled people to obtain benefits they were not receiving and also
keeping local authorities to their commitments when needed.

I believe that client advocacy is going to further develop in
the future and both local authorities and voluntary agencies should
support this.”
